Before choosing press-on nails, check which application system the set uses. Adhesive tabs, air-drying nail glue and lamp-cured gel adhesive have different preparation and removal instructions. A pack of nail tips may not include the adhesive or equipment pictured in a demonstration.
1. Check the fit and the pack contents
Match a tip to each natural nail before applying adhesive. It should fit without overlapping the skin. Follow the brand's sizing instructions; nail count and the number of available sizes are different measurements. Compare the contents of our press-on sets, and check whether the tips can be shaped with a file.
2. Use the preparation instructions for your set
Do not assume that every kit includes an alcohol pad, file or adhesive. Read the instructions before preparing your nails, and use only the preparation products specified for that system.
3. Identify the adhesive
- Adhesive tabs: check the kit's application, wear and removal directions.
- Air-drying nail glue: follow the directions on the exact glue and nail set. Application amounts and contact times vary.
- Lamp-cured gel adhesive: use the manufacturer's compatible lamp and curing instructions; it is not interchangeable with ordinary nail glue.
Compare nail glues and adhesives by system rather than choosing on a promised number of wear days alone.
4. Apply without covering the skin
Position the nail according to the set's instructions and keep adhesive off the skin. Do not slide a tip underneath the cuticle. If the product uses uncured gel, read the British Association of Dermatologists' advice on gel products and compatible lamps before use.
5. Check whether finishing products are needed
Some sets are pre-finished; other tips require additional products. Only add a base or top coat when the nail system specifies it. Do not assume that the finish or builder gel shown in a photograph is already on the tips.
Wear and removal
There is no single wear duration or removal method for every adhesive. If a nail lifts, follow the manufacturer's removal and reapplication directions rather than covering the gap with more glue. Do not force or pull nails off.
For example, KISS publishes specific removal instructions for its glue-on nails; these should not be treated as directions for every brand or gel system. Warm soapy water is not a universal substitute for the remover specified by the manufacturer. Browse nail care and cuticle care for products suited to your routine, checking their instructions.
Can you reuse a set?
Check the exact set's instructions. Some nails are designed for one use, while others allow reuse with a specified adhesive and removal method. Reuse should not be assumed from the appearance of the nails alone.
